Gary rode his bike 5 hrs at 14 mph to get his car. He then drove back at 35 mph. How much time did the entire trip take?

7 hours.

Explanation:

The outward trip took 5 hours.

We now calculate the distance of this trip:

Speed = distance / time, so

Distance = speed * time.

= 14 * 5 = 70 miles.

So the time for the return journey = distance / speed

= 70 / 35

= 2 hours.

= 5 + 2 = 2 hours.
