I personally believe Fame and Power play a major role. Some people are really messed up in the head while others see a bombing and are like wow that man is treated like a god and the news is STILL talking about year old bombings and what not, also the power that someone could feel making threats and being in control is addictive and could lead to some very bad behavior.
