A producer is like... a green plant or bacterium (plural for bacteria) and it's part of the first level of the food chain. Phototrophs and chemotrophs are two major producers. Phototrophs use the energy from the sun to convert carbon dioxide into carbohydrates, in other words, photosynthesis. Chemotrophs are almost microscopic- they are found in places where water and light are scarce (or rare) or even not there at all.

Plants receive energy from the sun. Plants are also called producers.

All green plants are called producers as they are the main thing that produces food. They are at the bottom of the food chain.

Producers make food by photosynthesis, which is possible because of the chloroplasts found in the plant cells.

(Chloroplasts are the organelles within the plant cell where photosynthesis takes place. And it also gives a plant green color)

Whenever eaten, usually by primary consumers, they get the energy stored in the plant from the sun, fufilling it's role in the food chain.

If there were no producers, there wouldn't be a food chain, and we would already be dead.
