The abacus was known as the world's first calculator. Long before humans could read or write, they needed to count. First, they used their fingers and then they found other ways by collecting shells, pebbles, and sticks. Eventually, the number got greater so they needed something that could help them add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Chinese traders used the abacus to count the inventory on their ships.

Advantages - Each row on an abacus has a different place value. Although the abacus has been replaced by the calculator, there are still some people that use it today. Another advantage is it's not complicated to use.

Disadvantages - There is really no point of using it anymore unless to show how to add, subtract. multiply, and divide. It's bigger than a calculator so it's not as easy to carry around as a small calculator.

An abacus is one of the oldest mechanical computers that was used to demonstrate the basic arithmetic calculations and operations in various numbering systems. It had a limited number of placeholders for operands and is still widely used today

Advantages

An Abacus can help build better and faster calculation skills. Those who have used abacus mathematics before can bear witness that it is considered to be one of the best ways of learning math through calculations.

It can help improve the overall comprehension of math and increase endurance for stress and pressure

Abacus has helped people of young and tender age improve problem solving skills and have them gain confidence in math. Mathematics to many young kids is extremely boring and difficult. The best way to make it more attractive and exciting is with Abacus math.

Disadvantages

Abacus math is effort demanding, hard to learn, and takes too long to calculate. It is based on skills that require the extra effort of focus and attention. It might turn children into machines and as a result hinder understanding of the subject.
