or if you require it in exact form,

-2.5 + √14.25, -2.5 - √14.25.

Explanation:

x^2 = -5x + 8

x^2 + 5x = 8

Competing the square:

(x + 2.5)^2 - 6.25 = 8

(x + 2.5) = 14.25

x + 2.5 = +/-√14.25

x = -2.5 + √14.25, -2.5 - √14.25

x = -2.5 + 3.77, -2.5 - 3.77

= 1.27, -6.27.
