Answer:

The Florida Technology Student Association is the Florida State Chapter of the National Technology Student Association (TSA). The TSA is a national organization of students who are studying or have completed courses in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM subjects). The TSA was formerly known as the American Industrial Arts Student Association (AIASA). In 1939, the American Industrial Arts Association (AIAA) was established in an attempt to get schools to focus on teaching the industrial arts. In 1958, the AIAA began conducting AIASA as a sponsored program. AIASA was an organization dedicated to students enrolled in STEM subjects. Its goal was to enhance technology education in students, build confidence, and allow students to build extracurricular and leadership skills . In 1978, AIAA formed AIASA Inc. as a non-profit organization that would oversee the functioning of AIASA as a separate organization. In 1988, students voted to change the name from AIASA to the Technology Student Association. The national TSA head office is located in Reston, VA.

The TSA motto is “Learning to Live in a Technical World.” The organization strives to equip its members with problem-solving, decision-making, critical-thinking, and leadership skills that will help them operate efficiently in the various fields of technology.

The mission statement of the Florida TSA indicates that the association focuses on preparing students for the challenges of succeeding in an ever-changing technological world. It aims to do this by promoting technological literacy, leadership, and problem solving; enhancing students’ personal development; and helping them to be successful in the real world. The TSA mission statement is: “The Technology Student Association fosters personal growth, leadership, and opportunities in technology, innovation, design, and engineering. Members apply and integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts through co-curricular activities, competitive events, and related programs.”

The Florida TSA organizes and conducts conferences and competitive events. The association holds separate competitive events for middle school and high school students so that students compete against others in their own age group. The association also provides scholarships to meritorious students. The Florida TSA also has a Technology Honor Society that recognizes and rewards students who excel in academics, leadership, and service.
