in this case we will represent that number by the variable x.

The sum of x and 7 is x+7

Twice that will be 2(x +7)

That has to equation three times the number which will make it

2(x+7) = 3x Now solve for x to find the number by distributing

2x + 14 = 3x Subtract 2x from both sides

2x -2x

14 = 1x Divide both sides by 1

x = 14
