At the garden store, pots were $5 and buckets were $7.

If a customer bought $1140 worth of $192 pots and buckets. How many of each type did they buy?

Let x = number of pots and y = number of buckets:

5x + 7y = 1140 (To model the price)

x + y = 192 (To model the amount sold)

x*(5) + y*(5) = 192*(5)

5x + 5y = 960

Cancelling out by subtracting equation 1 with equation 2...
