-The main idea of a literary work is usually stated in its introduction and conclusion.

-Look for a thesis statement or sentence that directly ties into the plot/actions of the characters.

-Identify recurring words, phrases, declarations, or plot points that are indicators of the main ideas (central ideas are often directly alluded to through supporting points or included evidence/examples)

-summarize the piece and its general topic to further grasp the main or central idea of the literature.
