*tip = chose a variable and get by itself one side and then plug it into the other equation

3x + y = 14

y = -3x + 14

2x - 6(-3x + 14) = -24

2x + 18x - 84 = -24

20x = 60

x = 3

3(3) + y = 14

9 + y = 14

y = 5
