The Soviet blocked of of West Berlin in 1948.

Explanation: Post world war II Germany was divided into two part,West Germany and east Germany. West Germany was controlled by USA and it's European allies Britain,France, whereas the East Germany was controlled by the Soviet Union. However even though Berlin was in East Germany, both parties had share in the Berlin. But in 1948, Soviet union blocked the supply path of USA and it's allies in the portion of West Germany occupied Berlin. They blocked the rail, land and naval roads. As a result there was a great tension raised into both USA and Soviet Union. Even the tension was turning into the war. But a dramatic decision of the Allies cooled down the tension of war. They supplied to their people in Berlin through air. USA, Britain, France, New Zealand and Australian air force supplied the fuel and food for the struck people in Berlin. This even known as the Berlin Airlift.
