A triangle can be formed only if the sum of 2 sides of the triangle is bigger than the length of the third side of this triangle.

In this case we have AB = 5, BC = 8 and AC = 14.

AB + AC > BC → 5 + 14 > 8 →1 9 > 8 ok!

AB + BC > AC → 5 + 8 > 14 → 13 > 14 false!

BC + AC > AB → 8 + 14 > 5 → 22 > 8 ok!

As we have that AB + BC > AC FALSE, this segments cannot form a triangle.
