We need energy to perform every single task of everyday life. This energy is obtained from the food we eat. There are three main sources of energy in our food.

1. Carbohydrates

2. Lipids

3. Proteins

Carbohydrates are hydrolyzed into glucose upon breakdown and this glucose is used as energy by most of the cells. While Lipids are more complex molecules and usually used to store energy to be used later. Proteins help in muscle building and provide essential amino acid to the body.

There are two ways to store energy, Long term storage and short term storage. The ATP is obtained by breaking down the large molecules and considered as short term energy as it last for only few seconds. While the long term energy is obtained from lipids hydrolysis.
