Answer:

140

Explanation:

Ok the triangle has already been separated which will make this easier. If the bottom of the rectangle is 16 feet and the top of the rectangle(before it touches the triangle) is 12 feet then we have to subtract: 16-12= 4

Why? because if the whole bottom is 16 and one part is 12 then the other has to contribute a certain amount to equal 16

The bottom of the triangle is 4 feet and the height is 6. We have to multiply this: 4 * 6= 24

Since this is a triangle we have to divide this by two because it is half of a rectangle: 24/ 2= 12

The area of the rectangle is: 16 *8= 128

To find the total area we must now add the area of the triangle and rectangle: 12 + 128 = 140

Formulas

Area of a triangle= (L * H) / 2

Area of a rectangle= L * W

Answer:

Explanation:

Triangle:

16-12=4

6 x 4 = 24

24 x 0.5 = 12

Triangle = 12

Rectangle:

16 x 8

= 128

Rectangle = 128

Total figure:

128+12

= 140

The area of the irregular figure is 140 sq. ft.

Hope I helped!
