Why did many Americans oppose U.S. participation in World War II?

They wanted to improve diplomatic relations with Japan.

They wanted the United States to avoid interfering in world politics.

Following World War I, there was a very high number of deaths. The United States especially did not want to have a World War II. A lot of people thought it was Europe’s problem to be resolved only by them. For this reason, America went into isolationism. Eventually, Japan began directly attacking the United States with bombs. This prompted the U.S to step up and join the war.
