1. Sheet erosion

2. Gully erosion

3. Rill erosion

Rill erosion occurs when a soil layer is gradually being washed away by narrow stream channels called streamlets on the surface. After a heavy downpour, the streamlets facilitates the movement of water on the ground surface and in turn, earth materials are worn away.

When these streamlets becomes deeper, they form gullies. Gullies results into gully erosion.

When runoff removes soil and loose sediment in thin layers it is called sheet erosion.
