Explanation:

When the degree of the numerator > degree of the denominator there is no horizontal asymptote but there is a slant asymptote.

Dividing the numerator by the denominator gives


(x^2-x-6)/(x+4) = x - 5 +
(14)/(x+4)

There is a slant asymptote with equation y = x - 5
