"The car represents the decadence and excess of the 1920s."

What does that mean? What does decadence mean? Google's definition does not make any sense. What does it mean it represents the "excess of the 1920s"? I know the car is a symbol for these two things but I don't understand what those two things mean. HELP NEEDED SOON

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The United States military had just come home from the worst war ever fought in the history of mankind.

The soldiers knew how easy it was to die. They wanted nothing to do with serious thought.

Let there be an abundance of women and wine. Let us think of nothing more than where to get the next bottle of gin. Let's bet on the races. Let's do anything but think about what it was like to bury the bodies that were gassed with Chlorine.

In other words, decadence means that the values before the war (honor of parents and devotion to sweetheart) were done away with and a morality of parties, liquors and racy music became the new standard. Fun. Parties. Nothing to do with work, self betterment, social betterment. Orgies and decadence and speedy cars. That's the new America.
