Mr. Ron is preparing for his yoga class. He is placing rectangular mats on the floor of a rectangular room. The room is 32 feet long and 21 feet wide. Each mat is 6 feet long and 2 feet wide. He places 8 mats on the floor. The mats do not overlap. How much of the floor is left uncovered by the mats?

First, we find the area of the rectangular room.

Area of a rectangle is length x width

A = 32 x 21

A = 672

Second, we find the area of the mat

A = 6 x 2

A = 12

Since Mr. Ron put 8 mats, we multiply the area of the mat by 8.

A = 12 x 8

A = 96

Finally, subtract the area of the room by the area of the 8 mats.

672 - 96 = 576

576 feet of the floor is left uncovered by the mats
