This is one of the very first steps you need to take in order to solve 2 equations with 2 unknowns. This does not require that you make any adjustments.

2x + y = 10

-2x +2y = 5 Just add. The xs cancel.

3y = 15 Divide by 3

3y/3 = 15/3

y = 5

Now use one of the equations (the top one is easier) to solve for x

2x + y = 10 Substitute y = 5

2x + 5 = 10 Subtract 5

2x +5-5 = 10-5

2x = 5 Divide by 2

x = 2.5
