My winter break was not how I expected it to be. I did enjoyed the small moments I had with family and friends, but unfortunately the stress and business of the holiday got to me. At the beginning of break I started my Christmas shopping in order to get friends and family nice and thoughtful gifts for the holidays. However, a store-bought gift is not nearly as thoughtful as a personalized gift that I could make myself, therefore I started to make every single one of my gifts for people. I spent many nights making gifts until midnight, occasionally until sunrise, because I felt distant from my friends; I hoped that a Christmas gift would be the kind of friendly gesture that could alleviate the distant feeling. I was so caught up in making gifts for people, that I was ill prepared for the trip to my grandparents house for Christmas (they live in a different state). I have friends that live near my grandparents that I would love to hang out with, but I would feel bad about contacting them last minute. I easily put my social inhibitions aside because I most likely wouldn't get to see them again until the next holiday. I hung out with some of my closest friends at an abandoned mall. We explored a broken-down Macy's with a rancid smell, appalling stains, and mold in the ceiling tiles. As disgusting as it seems, it was the best part of my winter break. I went home a day before New Year's Eve and had a quiet celebration the next day, for 2021. Even though it was already 2021, all my friends Christmas gifts were unfinished. I stayed up late, yet again, finishing gifts. I finally delivered them on Saturday, but because I had spent the whole break staying up late and not sleeping in, I never had time to catch up on sleep or even relax. My break was wonderful but I can't wait until the weekend so I can have a good night's sleep.
