the square of the length of the hypotenuse, which is the side opposite to the right angle, is equal to the sum of the squares of the lengths of the other two sides.

So we have :

* (8)^2 + (9)^2 = 64 + 81 = 145 = V(145) = 12, 041 in.

The answer is :

(10)^2 - (6)^2 = 100 - 36 = 64 = \/(64) = 8 ft.
