James walks every day at the same rate of speed. On Monday, he walked 3.5 miles in in half an hour Tuesday it took him 4 hours to walk 28 miles. On Friday, James walked 56 miles in 8 hours. What is James constant rate of speed?

to find james’ constant rate of speed, you can divide miles by hours (m/h)

28 miles / 4 hours = 7

56 miles / 8 hours = 7

3.5 is half of 7, so we know that’s true as well

this means james’ constant rate of speed would be 7 mph

The speed is defined as the ratio between the distance you cover and the time it takes you to cover that distance.

So, in this case, we have

s = (3.5)/(0.5) = (28)/(4) = (56)/(8) = 7\text{ mph}
