Alita is knitting a scarf. She will make 1/8 of it using white yarn, 2/8 using green yarn, 3/8 using red yarn, and the rest of the scarf will be made with blue yarn. Answer:

a.The fraction of the scarf blue is 2/8

b. There is 2/8 more of red than white

c. There is 2/8 more of red and green than white and blue

Explanation:

Scarf = white yarn+green yarn+ red yarn+blue yarn

Scarf = 1/8+3/8+3/8+Blue

The scarf is 1 , and we can say that is the same as 8/8 ( we choose the same denominator that the other fraction)

8/8= 1/8+2/8+3/8+Blue

Blue= 8/8-1/8-3/8-3/8

Blue= 8/8-6/8

Blue= 2/8

b.

Difference between red and white, we have to rest both fraction

Diff = red yarn- white yarn

Diff= 3/8-1/8= 2/8

c.

red and green= 3/8+2/8= 5/8

white and blue=1/8+2/8= 3/8

Difference=5/8-3/8= 2/8

Answer:

Part a) The fraction of the scarf blue will be
(2)/(8)

Part b) Scarf's red is
(2)/(8) more than scarf's white

Part c) Scarf's red and green is
(2)/(8) more than scarf's white and blue

Explanation:

Part a) What fraction of the scarf will be blue?

Let

x------> fraction of the scarf that is blue

we know that

The linear equation that represent this situation is

1=(1)/(8) +(2)/(8)+(3)/(8) +x

Solve for x

1=(6)/(8) +x

x=1-(6)/(8)

x=(2)/(8)

Simplify

(2)/(8)=(1)/(4)

Part b) How much more of scarf is red than white?

we know that

The fraction of red scarf is
(3)/(8)

The fraction of white scarf is
(1)/(8)

so

Find the difference

(3)/(8)-(1)/(8)=(2)/(8)

Simplify

(2)/(8)=(1)/(4)

Part c) How much more of the scarf is red and green than white and blue?

we know that

The fraction of red and green scarf is
(3)/(8)+(2)/(8)=(5)/(8)

The fraction of white and blue scarf is
(1)/(8)+(2)/(8)=(3)/(8)

Find the difference

(5)/(8)-(3)/(8)=(2)/(8)

Simplify

(2)/(8)=(1)/(4)
