Scott wants to swim across a river that is 400 meters wide. He begins swimming perpendicular to the shore

he started from but ends up 100 meters down river from where he started because of the current. How far
did he actually swim from his starting point?
Pythagorean Theorem and probably radical

Answer:

100^2+400^2=c^2

10000+160000=c^2

170000=c^2

c=412.3

Explanation: You square root 170000 so c=412.3

Answer:

412.3 Meters

Step-by-step explanation:

a= river width (400)

b= length traveled downstream (100)

c= total length (?)

a^(2) + b^(2) = c^(2)

400^(2) +100^(2)= c^(2)

160,000 + 10,000 =
c^(2)

c^(2)= 170,000

√(170,000) =412.3
