the perimeter of the hexagon is 162 cm. Each longer side measures 1 cm more than twice a shorter side. What is shorter sides length?.... I hope I explained it right

Answer:

The shorter sides are 17 2/3 cm long

Explanation:

Yes, you explained it right.

Let's remember that an hexagon has 6 sides, so the perimeter is the sum of the lengths of all the sides.

I assume there are 3 longer sides and 3 shorter sides. (it could be 4/2, but not 5/1 based on the use of plurals in the question).

If it was a regular hexagon the perimeter would be 6x a side length.

But it's not a regular one, however we know the link between the various lengths. So, let's input what we know, taking x as the length of a short side:

162 = 3x + 3 (2x + 1) = 3x + 6x + 3

159 = 9x

x = 17 6/9 so 17 2/3 cm
