Explanation:

because the area of a square is L x L so if the length is 18 you would multiply 18 by 18 which is 18²

and the area of a triangle is (bh)1/2 or (bh)÷2. So if the base is 18 and the height is 10 you would do 1/2(18 x 10) and then you would add the area of the square together with it which is

(18)² + 1/2 (18)(10)
