8x - 2y = 1
-4x + y = 3​

8x - 2y = 1 ---------------------(1)

-4x+ y = 3----------------------(2)

Multiply (2) by 2

-8x +2y = 6 -----------------(3)

Add (1) to (3)

8x - 2y + (- 8x + 2y) = 1+6

8x - 2y - 8x +2y = 7

But all the terms in LHS cancel out, leaving 0.

So you get 0=7, which is not valid.

Therefore no solution exists. DNE
