Answer:

x = -2.5

Explanation:

5(x+2) = 3x +5

Distribute the 5 on the left side

5x + 10 = 3x + 5

Subtract 3x from both sides

2x + 10 = 5

Subtract 10 from both sides

2x = -5

Divide by 2, in order to isolate x

x = -2.5

Distribute (multiply): 5x + 10 = 3x + 5; subtract 5 from both sides

5x + 5 = 3x; subtract 5x from both sides

5 = -2x; divide both sides by -2

-2.5 = x

Substitute to make sure it's right. 5(-2.5 + 2) = 3(-2.5) + 5

5(-0.5) = -7.5 + 5

-2.5 = -2.5
