11x - 17 and 10x - 34 form a straight angle and are supplementary

Sum the 2 angles and equate to 180

11x - 17 + 10x - 34 = 180 ← simplify left side

21x - 51 = 180 ( add 51 to both sides )

21x = 231 ( divide both sides by 21 )

x = 11

Hence

11x - 17 = (11 × 11) - 17 = 121 - 17 = 104

11x - 17 and z are vertical angles and congruent, hence

z = 104
