Please help me i've been doing this for like 4 hours and i used up my last brain cells...

Use the Pythagorean theorem to answer the question. Josie walks 2 miles east and then turns and walks another 1/2 mile to the north. The walk takes her 1 hour. What is Josie's average velocity?

2 mi/h to the northeast

4.25 mi/h to the northeast

Answer:

2.06(mi)/(h) to the northeast

Explanation:

step 1

Find the distance

Applying the Pythagoras Theorem

d^(2) =2^(2)+((1)/(2))^(2) \\ \\d^(2)=4+(1)/(4)\\ \\d^(2)=(17)/(4)\\ \\d=(√(17))/(2)\ mi\\\\d=2.06\ mi

step 2

Find the average velocity

Divide the distance by the time (1 hour)

(2.06)/(1)=2.06(mi)/(h)
