The sum of two numbers is 50.The larger number is 16 more than the smaller number. What are the numbers?

17 & 33

Explanation:

Let x and y be your numbers.

x+y=50

x=16+y

Now substitute the bottom equation into the top equation to get:

16+y+y=50

16+2y=50

2y=34

y=17

So to find out the other number substitute back in to one of the top two equations:

x+17=50

x=33

So 17 and 33 are your two numbers.
