The Brewster charter bus company provides a bus trip for a fare of $80 each for 30 or fewer passengers. For each passenger in excess of 30, the fare is decreased $2 per person for everyone. What number of passengers will produce the maximum revenue for the bus company?

The bus company charges $80 for each passenger up to 30. They charge $2 less per person over 30. This means for 31 passengers they charge $78, for 32 passengers they charge $76 etc. The total revenue for the bus company will be the price of each ticket times the number of passengers. Passengers Revenue

30 30*80 = 2400

31 31*78 = 2418

32 32*76 = 2432

33 33*74 = 2442

34 34*72 = 2448

35 35*70 = 2450

....

40 40*60 = 2400

The max revenue the company receives is 35 passengers.
