Answer:

£32.40

Explanation:

Let Andy's amount be x then

Ben's amount = 3x ( 3 times as much as Andy ) and

Claire's amount = 2 × 3x = 6x ( twice as much as Ben ), hence

x + 3x + 6x = 54

10x = 54 ( divide both sides by 10)

x = 5.4

Claire gets 6x = 6 × 5.4 = £32.40

we can answer this by using ratios.

andy = A

ben = B

claire = C

ben gets tree times as much as andy

A : B : C

1 : 3 : C

claire gets twice as much as ben

1 : 3 : 6

1 + 3 + 6 = 10

there are 10 parts altogether.

54/10 = 5.4 (£5.40)

1 part = £5.40

claire has 6 parts. £5.40*6 = £32.40

claire gets £32.40
