The significance of the American Revolution to world history cannot be emphasized enough. As the first successful independence movement of a European colony, the rebellion helped shape the thoughts of other, later movements. Think for a moment about how history would have been changed if the American Revolution hadn't happened. Do you think there was anything the colonists or the British government could have done differently to avoid the revolution? What would our world possibly look like today if the original 13 colonies hadn't rebelled?

Answer:

England could have caved

Step-by-step explanation:

The key difference making option would have been if England had caved on their tax demands. This would have shifted the reasoning for war and likely would have diffused revolutionary fervor.

This would have diffused French revolutionary fervor as well.

The world would likely still be controlled mostly by a few European nations

1. Although the war seems unavoidable when we look back on it, it is likely that Great Britain had the chance to diffuse the situation. Before the war started, the colonists had made complaints and requests to the British government repeatedly. These were often ignored, and the colonists considered the outcome as evidence of the fact that the King did not care about his colonial subjects. If the King had listened more carefully, and agreed to compromise, the war might have been avoided.

2. The American Revolution was an important source of inspiration for the French Revolution. The French Revolution, in turn, inspired many European governments to liberalize and slowly democratize their monarchies. Without the revolution in the American colonies, absolutism would have probably lasted longer. Moreover, the independence movements in the rest of America would probably have occurred much later as well.
