Then write it out.

4x^2 - 8x - 60 = 0

Then we can take out 4 out of everything.

4(x^2 - 2x - 15) = 0

Then we can factor.

4(x - 5)(x + 3) = 0

So the zeros of the function are 5 and -3.

The smallest of those two is -3.
