Answer:

302 cm²

Explanation

To find the surface area of the figure, find the area of each face and add them together.

The cube

There are 9 faces for the 2 cubes on top of the blue prism. Each face measures as 2cm by 2 cm. The area of one face is A = 2*2 = 4 cm². Since there are 9 faces, the surface area of the cubes is 9*4 = 36 cm².

The rectangular prism

There are 6 faces for the blue prism. Four of the faces measure 11 cm by 5 cm. Two of the faces measure 5cm by 5 cm. Find the area by multiplying each face's measurements.

11*5 = 55

Four faces: 4*55 = 220 cm²

5*5 = 25

Two faces: 2*25 = 50 cm²

All together the surface area of the figure is 36 + 220 + 50 = 306.

However notice that the cube sits on top of the blue prism and covers up a portion of the face. The area it covers is 4 cm². Subtract 306 - 4 = 302.
