Probably the biggest thing that these traders brought with them was Islam, helping to spread Islam across this region and even into Europe. In addition these traders brought spices and culinary practices from the Middle East as well as Asia influence the cuisine of North Africa and Europe. Finally another major influence was the Arabic language which became a dominant language in North Africa as well as influencing the Spanish language in Europe

Muslim traders connected European and North African merchants with the Far East and Asian trade routes. They often traded spices, silk, and cotton textiles. They also traded ideas, including advanced mathematics, chess, and Arabic numerals. The Arabic language and the Islamic faith spread rapidly in North Africa. Today, Arabic is the official language in all North African countries and Islam is the most common religion.
