PLEASE HELP! Evaluate 4[3.1+2]

So the brackets actually don't have the bottom portion of it so it's supposed to look like an upside down L ⅃

The given is an expression which represents the ceiling function or least integer funciton.

Hence we cannot do as we do for normal integers.

Ceiling function means for any value k, ceiling funciton of k, represnted by brackets without bottom portion = the least integer which is higher than k

For example, for 2.1 least integer funciton is 3, because 3 is the least integer which is greater than 2.1 though, 4,5 ... all satisfy this

Apply this to our problem

4|_ 3.1+2_|

We find first least integer function for inside term =3.1+2 = 5.1

is 6 since 6 is just above 5.1

Now multiply 4 with 6 to get answer as 24

Answer is C
