missing small triangle has base 1 and height 1

area of triangle = base * height / 2

area of triangle = 1 * 1 /2 = 1/2

Area of the almost rectangle shape is 32 - 1/2 = 32 - 0.5 = 31.5 square units.

Now we calculate the area of the triangle on the upper left.

base = 2; height = 4

area = base*height/2 = 2 * 4 / 2 = 4 square units

Total area = 31.5 square units + 4 square units = 35.5 square units
