This is a parallelogram so JK = ML and JM = KL. If JK is congruent to ML, set their values equal.

14 + 2x = 5x - 1; add 1 to both sides

15 + 2x = 5x; subtract 2x from both sides

15 = 3x; divide both sides by 3

5 = x; so substitute 5 in for x to find the length of JK

14 + 2(5) = 14 + 10 or A) 24
