a materials scientist has 56 pounds of a liquid. she uses most of the liquid to fill 7 beakers. The remaining liquid fill 1/9 of an 8th beaker. How many ponds of liquid is in one full beaker

7.875 pounds

Explanation:

Assuming the beakers are the same size, and each beaker takes in x pounds.

Then for seven beakers we have;

x × 7 = 7x pounds

For the eight beaker;

1/9 × x= 1/9x pounds

Therefore;

7x + 1/9x = 56 pounds

63x + x = 56 ×9

64 x = 504

x = 504/64

= 7.875 pounds

Therefore; one full beaker takes in 7.875 pounds when full
