A vehicle’s fuel economy is affected by its speed. The data on Spaller Auto’s most popular vehicle is shown in the table below where x is the speed (mph) and F(x) is the fuel economy (mpg). Calculate the rate of change for the interval 35 ≤ x ≤ 45.

Answer:

0.27 mpg/mph

Explanation:

The table of your question is attached in the image below

x = 35 , F(X) = 31.4

x = 45 , F(X) = 34.1

We need to find the slope between those points (rate of change)

m = F2 - F1 / (x2 - x1)

m = 34.1 - 31.4 / (45 - 35)

m = 2.7 / (45 - 35)

m = 2.7 / (10)

m = 2.7 / (10) = 0.27

m = 0.27
