Please help, I’m just getting back to school and forgot how to do this.

Solve using y=mx+b.
slope = undefined, and point = (-4, -8).
Please use an explanation so I can understand better in the future!

Let's write the equation

  • m=undefined
  • Point (-4,-8)

\\ \sf\longmapsto y=mx+b

  • Line is parallel to y axis

\\ \sf\longmapsto x+4=(-8)/(\infty)

\\ \sf\longmapsto x+4=0

\\ \sf\longmapsto x=-4

Answer:

  • x = - 4

Explanation:

The slope is the ratio of rise to run.

Rise is the difference of y-coordinates, run is the difference of x-coordinates.

Now, the slope is said undefined if the difference of x-coordinates is zero.

It means you have to divide by zero but it is impossible.

We have a point (- 4, - 8) and the slope is undefined.

It means our line has repeat x = -4 coordinates, it is a vertical line.

Its equation will be:

  • x = - 4
