Explanation:

you use the denominator, in this case 4, and multiply it by the whole number, 3, and add the numerator, 3. So it's 4x3+3=15 and you still use the denominator.

3 3/4 is the same as saying there is a number than 4 can go into 3 times but with 3 left over. So, 4 goes into 12 three times and with 3 left over, that would make it 12 + 3 or 15. This mixed fraction is equal to the improper fraction 15/4. Hope this helps!
