Marlee used to be a shy girl who would always stay away from strangers ,which created an anxiety towards anything new. She would never stand up to her "friend" Sally Mcdanials because she was to anxious to do so. Although one day a girl named Liz came up to Marlee and spoke to her with much confidence as well as kindness. That day Marlee and Liz agreed to doing a joint class presentation. Sadly, when the day comes, Liz does not show up because she was kicked out of school, for the simple reason that she is black. After Marlee does research towards whats going on with Liz, she sees the injustice of how African-American citizens are being treated, which creates a spark inside her and makes her stand up for what she believes in. The exact opposite of how she used to be.
