"As the saying goes, “The older you grow, the wiser you become,” you will later find out how this is proven to be true. The Southern Gothic novel To Kill a Mockingbird is about coming-of-age. The story revolves around a family consisting of one boy, one, girl, and a father in the deep rural Maycomb County, Alabama in the 1930s. The children are growing up and with the help of family, society, and a nanny; they learn about not being innocent, and with the experiences life throws at them, the tests of kindness, cruelty, and love. The main adult characters Atticus and Calpurnia act as Scout’s life guides throughout the story, showing that with age one has more situations that expand one's knowledge, and by considering other perspectives, one becomes more knowing and wise."
