First paragraph, introduce the subject to the reader. Mention important dates, relevant facts, and try to make it the least difficult for your teacher to reach. Try starting it with sentences for flair, such as “The Cold War was a fascinating time period in history” followed by a fact on something like a Cuban missile crises or the red scare. I know, it’s not ACTUALLY interesting, but school essays are about bs-ing to victory. PRETEND like you know what you’re talking about. That’s what you’re trying to sell to your teacher.
Second paragraph, elaborate on a specific event from the Cold War. It makes the most sense to format it chronologically, meaning the way it took place in history. You can mention when the Cold War began.
Bs, bs, bs your way to five/seven sentences.
Third paragraph, write something about an ACTUALLY interesting part of the Cold War so you don’t fall asleep. I’d write about bunkers and fall out shelters. Ever play the game fallout? It was based on the Cold War, and us entering a nuclear war with Russia and destroying society because of it.
Fourth paragraph, talk about how the Vietnam war impacted the red scare, and if you wanna sound REALLY clever add something about the book “The Things We Carried” by Tim O’Brian, which is a major work written by an actual Vietnam soldier. Good stuff. Vietnam war LITERALLY happened because we had tension with russia, and didn’t want other countries to become communistic as well.
Finalize the essay by returning to your original claim. Don’t restate your first paragraph. That’s boring. But mention some key parts of your entire essay, or even throw some shade at the fact that the whole Cold War was extremely ridiculous and we probably shouldn’t have been having panic attacks at nuclear wars or whatever. Just anything relevant to what you were writing about.
