If there is a high undulation such as a mountain in the local region there will be high precipitation on the windward side of the mountain and low precipitation on the leeward. This is because a mountain forces the winds towards the cooler upper atmosphere. The moisture in the wind condenses and precipitates. As the winds descend into the leewards side most of the moisture has been drained out.
