The Meiji Restoration was basically a kick for modern revolution in Japan. Japan was an isolated country before 1853 when an unexpected visit from the American Commodore, Matthew Perry, and a fleet of ships arrived at Japan. The U.S. wanted to open trade with Japan. But Japan identified the superiority of the U.S. and accepted the trading rights to the U.S. and other foreign countries. But the Daimyo and Samurai were upset with the shogun for allowing foreign influence in Japan, so they overthrew the shogun and restored the emperor's power. The national reformers worked to develop Japan and strengthen its military so japan could have equal strength to the rest of the nations.

They started to industrialize the country by creating lot of manufacturing facilities, which led to rapid economic growth, and entering the industrial circle. The Meiji also managed to create a sense on unity and nationalism in the society, also implementing western values and mixing them with the Japanese ones. Politically, the Meiji managed to have control of all country, not like the previous rulers where there were multiple rulers, or conflicts for the throne. Also, they had imperialistic policies, and they convinced the people that that is the way the country should act, and so they did.
